On the Subject of Community Service...

As all of our students and families know, Community Service is an important part of the SPHS learning experience. The hours that our students serve in our community can be applied toward application to the FL Bright Futures Scholarship Program, numerous other scholarships, and college applications. More importantly, serving the community provides the opportunity for students to experience the value of sharing their talents and energy with other members of their community.  Seniors at SPHS should be finishing up their hours as soon as possible, as the application for Bright Futures opens up in December. Late Spring submissions can cause some serious delays in financial aid decisions for Fall college entrance.

HOW MANY HOURS ARE NEEDED?

There are three levels of FL Bright Futures Scholarship, with different requirements for Community Service hours.  To receive the FL Academic Scholars award, 100 hours are required.  FL Medallion Scholars require 75 hours, and Gold Seal Vocational Scholars require 30 hours.

In addition, students will earn 1/2 elective credit for 75 hours and a full credit for 150 hours on their official transcripts. 100 cumulative hours of Community Service are required for students to graduate from SPHS.

WHAT ARE THE RULES?

Community service hours must be served with a non-profit organization for which the student receives no monetary compensation or a for-profit agency which has an established volunteer program, (i.e. a candy stripe volunteer program at a hospital.)

Acceptable Community Service Activities:
Volunteer with church outside of religious services such as nursery, office, community outreach, etc.
Participating with a team, club, or band in a community service project or outreach program when attendance is not mandatory
Volunteering at an ALF, Nursing Home, or Hospital conducting enrichment &/or entertaining
Coaching, Scorekeeper, Referee for a little league team
Volunteering after school at a school

Not Acceptable Community Service Activities:

Volunteer hours before graduating 8th grade
Volunteering at a non-profit agency to replace a paid staff member
Internships with a for-profit business
Helping at a parent’s business without pay
Church participation during religious services (such as alter server, choir, band, acolyte, etc.)
Church mission camp, teaching bible studies, vacation bible school
School sponsored sports
Playing as a member on a community sports team
Any required participation to be a member of a team, club, group, or band
Any political campaigns of any kind
Meetings for clubs, scouts, 4-H, etc.
Teacher's Aid during school hours

HOW DO STUDENTS GET STARTED:

Students must register online and get pre-approved for EVERY location where they will be serving. If they haven't already, students will need to visit http://scs-webapps2.sarasota.k12.fl.us/hscs/ to get started.

Students will then pick up a Community Service log sheet from the SPHS Front Office and get it signed each time they serve.

Save the Dates!

Here's a rundown on upcoming Volunteer Opportunities and activities around SPHS:

Tuesday, November 3rd – Veteran’s Day Celebration

Tuesday, November 3rd is our Veteran’s Day Celebration! This is a great opportunity for our students to honor those who have served in our military!  Veterans from our community come to SPHS and are greeted by the Student Council and hosted with coffee, juice and pastries.  They are then escorted by the Student Council members to speak to the classes.  The Veterans finish their visit with lunch in the STC Bistro where they are presented with a gift bag.  During lunch, the SPHS students are treated to red, white and blue patriotic cupcakes.

To support this event, we are in need of the following:

Donations:
  • Monetary donations for purchase of coffee, juice, doughnut holes, pastries, items for gift bags for the veterans. (We need approximately $50 for the morning reception and $150 for the gift bags.)
  • We are looking for sponsors to purchase 20 $10 gift cards for Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks for the Veteran’s gift bags. (If you can sponsor 1, 2 or even more that would be great!) Large red, white and blue cupcakes for all of the Veterans (we are expecting 15-20)
  • Red, white and blue cupcakes for all of the students, approximately 600 or 50 dozen. Monetary donations for purchasing cupcakes would also be great!

Volunteers:
We need 4-6 volunteers between 9 am and approximately 11:30 am to help set-up, greet the Veterans, put together gift bags, decorate Bistro tables and hand out cupcakes to students.

Saturday, November 7th – VEX Robotics Competition

SPHS will be hosting another VEX Robotics Competition on November 7th from 7:30 am until approximately 4:00 pm.  Once again, the TSA (Technology Student Association) Club would like to set up a concession stand to help fundraise for their participation in the local and state competitions.
If you would like to support them, we are looking for donations of the following items to be sold at the concession table:
  • Sodas
  • Cases of water
  • Boxes of candy bars
  • Boxes of granola bars, energy bars, etc.
  • Paper plates
  • Napkins
We also need a couple of volunteers throughout the day to help with the concession stand, as well as go pick up pizza.  Whether you can spend an hour or all day, any help is greatly appreciated.

Monday, November 9th – Hispanic Month Celebration

On Monday, November 9th, the Spanish Language classes will be holding their celebration of Hispanic Month.   We are in need of several volunteers during each period to help with setting up the food and serving, as well as manning the microwave. Whether you can spend one period or all day, every little bit of assistance helps.

The schedule for the different periods are 7am to 9am, 9am to 11am, 11am to 1pm, and 1pm to 3pm. The first and last “shifts” will be helping with set-up and clean-up.  We will also need donations of the following items:
  • Sodas
  • Cases of water
  • Paper plates
  • Napkins
  • Plastic Silverware
  • Cups

Friday, November 13th – CafĂ© Renegade Open Mic Night

Come join us as our students take to the stage to let their inner rock star, poet or comic shine in the spotlight! To support this entertaining and fun evening, we will be in need of the following:

Donations:
  • “Coffeehouse” style pastries (think scones, muffins, croissants, banana bread, pound cake, cake pops, specialty cupcakes, brownies, cookies.) We need enough for approximately 50-100 people.
  • Items for coffee service – creamer, sugar, stirrers
  • Tea Bags
  • Hot Chocolate mix
  • Bottles of water
  • Napkins
  • Small paper plates
  • Cups for hot drinks
Volunteers:
To help with set-up, coffee prep and clean up we need 3-4 people.  You should plan to arrive at 6:00 pm and be finished about 9:30 pm.

Thursday, November 19th – Great American Teach-In

On Thursday, November 19th,  SPHS invites our various business partners to come in and talk to the students about careers in a variety of fields.  To support this event we are in need of the following:

Donations:
  • Pastries
  • Juice
  • Bottles of water
Volunteers:
We need 3-4 volunteers throughout the morning, starting around 7 am until around 12:30 to help with the hospitality table. We can easily break this into one hour shifts so you don’t need to plan on being at the school the entire time. We just need one or two people to help with setting up the table and really to keep it from being raided by the students. (If they see donuts they will come.)

Here’s a few more to keep in mind for December:
  • Poinsettia Sale
  • Teacher Holiday Baskets
  • December 10th – Book Fair
  • December 11th – Winter Dance
If you can help with any of the above events, please email us at sphsboosterpres@gmail.com

Congratulations September Students of the Month!

Grade 9: Michael Wieczorek, nominated by Mrs. Fuller

Michael is a wonderful new addition to our 9th grade team.  He embodies the qualities we are looking for at SPHS.  He is attentive, polite, cooperative, strives to do his best and learn more. It is shown in his written work. He has acclimated well to high school!

Grade 10: Anthony Elkhatib, nominated by Mrs. Lowery

Everybody knows about Anthony's outstanding artistic ability.  Some are aware of his dedication to his extracurricular sports.  However, what makes Anthony exceptional is how he meets all four of the SPHS pillars. He is a student that all of his peers look up to for the wisdom he possesses.  He is helpful to other students in the classroom who are struggling. He is also a mentor to many ninth-grade students. Before the school year even started, his ninth grade teachers spoke about what a natural leader and what a great person he is.  It is the beginning of the school year and we are already very proud of Anthony.

Grade 11: Gabriela Soto, nominated by Mr. Disz

It is my pleasure to nominate Gabriela Soto as the first junior student of the month for the 2015/2016 school year.  Gabriela earned, was not given, but earned a 100% on her first batch of homework assignments and her first test.  It’s always a pleasure to see a student work hard and reap the benefits, especially right from the start.  Congratulations to Gabriela.

Grade 12: Will Mathews, nominated by Dr. Burns

I taught Will as a freshman and now have him again as a senior.  I have seen tremendous growth in him since then.  As a freshman he was often confused and sometimes despairing.  Now he is a competent and confident young man.  He pays careful attention in class, almost always “catches on” and usually has the right answers.  He is respectful, always knows his place, and, although accommodations are always available to him, he seldom uses any excuses but participates as an active member of the class.  He is a success story for our school.

A Word from Dr. Burns

THEATER OPPORTUNITIES

The students at SPHS are being invited to attend three performances by professional actors this year through our association with Asolo in Sarasota.

On October 15th, the touring company from the Asolo will bring a performance of TWELFTH NIGHT to the Conference Center.  It will cost students $5.00 to attend the performance, which will be followed immediately with a discussion with the actors.

On November 18th at 10:30am, students are invited to attend a performance of WEST SIDE STORY by Sondheim and Bernstein at the Asolo.  Tickets are $10.00 and transportation will cost an additional $5.00. The buses will leave at 9:15am and we will return to school by 2:00pm.  We will have lunch (on our own) at intermission, then we see the second act followed by a conversation with the actors and then we return to school.

On March 3rd we will offer a production of MACBETH at the Asolo. This time the performance will be in the black box theater at the Asolo which is a more intimate venue.  At intermission we will eat lunch, followed by the rest of the play and then a discussion with the actors.  We board the buses and will return to school at 2:00pm. Cost: $10 for the performance and $5 for transportation.

This is an excellent chance for students to see actors in different roles in each play and learn something of what an actor does.

DONATIONS NEEDED

I am asking for contributions of cookies, more sensible foods (Nature Valley Bars, for example) and fruit.  I give the members of the drama club a little snack after school before rehearsal and also give some away for kids who don't eat breakfast and are hungry later in the morning. You may drop off your donations at the main office and will receive community service hours for your donation.

STAGE DEVELOPMENTS

Your contributions to build a stage for our use has run into a snag. There are guidelines and regulations which do not allow what we had planned and we are now planning to acquire a metal foldable stage which will be easier to store. We hope to have the new stage by the spring. Some of the cost will be picked up by Suncoast Technical College. Building permits and all sorts of liability issues can be avoided by using a professionally designed and built metal stage.

PLANNED PERFORMANCES

This year the drama club will be performing two or three variety programs at a nursing/residence home each semester. That way rehearsal and travel, as well as performance time, can count toward community service hours - a bonus they need.  We are still looking to present a theatrical experience in the middle of May at the STC Conference Center. There will be a slight admission charge so that we can start to be self-sustaining. Stay tuned for more information about these performances.

Business Partner Spotlight – Fred’s Market Restaurant, 4000 Cattleman Road, Sarasota, FL

We wanted to take a moment and recognize one of our new Business Partners – Fred’s Market Restaurant on Cattleman Road in Sarasota.  Fred’s Market “serves up a special taste of farm-to-plate freshness, on our MarketTable™” Their cozy restaurant offers up a wide selection of “slow food, fast.”

Although they are new to the Sarasota market, Fred’s has a history of supporting schools in their local communities.  Over the summer they approached SPHS with a desire to partner with us.  After meeting with them, Fred’s has offered to help SPHS in a variety of ways.  As a “welcome back’, they generously donated breakfast to the staff prior to the start of the school.  Fred’s will also support the Student of the Month breakfasts held throughout the year. We are looking forward to working with the leadership and staff at Fred’s Market as a Business Partner as they help make this a great school year!

If you would like to learn more about our Business Partner Program, please feel free to contact me at sphsboosterpres@gmail.com.

It’s the Holiday Season! Almost.

Okay, so the pumpkins aren’t even out yet and I’m bringing up the December Holidays. I know. Feel free to pelt me with tinsel the next time you see me.  However, before the busiest time of the year really gets into full swing, I figured I would start now asking you to think about supporting our poinsettia sales and our Teacher Holiday Baskets.

The poinsettia sale is the Booster’s biggest fundraiser of the year.  If you have an office, retail store, living room, RV, lanai, anything you want to decorate with some beautiful plants, start thinking of supporting our sale.  If you own a business or work at a business and would like plants to decorate for the season, please let me know. We’ll be happy to work with you to arrange early deliveries.

Our Teacher Holiday Baskets are to show our staff how much we appreciate their efforts throughout the year!  This program keeps getting bigger and better and we’re expecting the same for this year.   Whether it is through cash and gift cards, crafting hand-made items, planning to bake goodies, start thinking of how you can support this endeavor! Need ideas?  Just contact us at sphsvolunteers@gmail.com and we’ll be glad to help.

SAVE THE DATE – Spirit Week Dance, Friday, October 9th, 2015

Spirit Week kicks off on October 5th and culminates with the first dance of the year on Friday, October 9th.  To help support this dance, the SPHS Boosters will be asking for parent volunteers to chaperone (we need you from 6-10), help with food tables (6 pm -9 pm), take tickets (6 pm to 9 pm) and help with clean-up afterwards (10-10:30).  Ear drums can’t take 4 hours of pounding music anymore?  No worries… we are going to need donations of sodas, bottled water, and desserts. Financial assistance will also be needed to fund the DJ, pizza, Chick-fil-A and decorations; $5, $10, $2… every little bit helps.  And if each family can contribute just a little bit we are able to cover the costs associated with the dance.

Interested in helping out either by volunteering at the dance or contributing?  Contact us today at sphsvolunteers@gmail.com!  Spots are filling up fast! Reserve yours now!! Limited time offer! Sign up within the next 48 hours and we’ll include a free set of steak knives! Volunteer at the dance and you’ll also receive your own set of earplugs! Just kidding.   Let us know how you can help between now and October 8th and you’ll receive our gratitude, appreciation, and respect. And earplugs. I wasn’t kidding about those.

April 2015 Students of the Month

12th Grade ~ Cameran Dodge

Cameran was nominated by Mr. Finger.
When asked why Cameran was nominated, Mr. Finger said:
“Cameran Dodge has really done an amazing job in honors physics recently. He has been quite the active participant in class making sure to complete all of his assignments and creating a unique and challenging project. He took the radioactive detector from a smoke detector and used its output to create a sort of random number generator. This was then used to mimic the idea of the famous Schrodinger Cat thought experiment. He has been helpful to other students and is always respectful to his teachers and peers. He really exemplifies the four pillars of the Suncoast Polytechnical High School.”

11th Grade ~ Christopher Brower

Christopher was nominated by Mr. Miller.
When asked why Christopher was nominated, Mr. Miller said:
“Chris Brower is respectful, works great with others, and always has his assignment done.  Other students will go to Chris for help because they know he works so hard in all of his classes.   Chris takes pride in himself and this helps the entire class.  It has been a pleasure to teach a student of the caliber of Chris for the past two years.”

10th Grade ~ Jessica Paumier

Jessica was nominated by Mr. BellĂłn.
When asked why Jessica was nominated, Mr. BellĂłn said:
“It is my great pleasure to recognize Jessica Paumier, as our S.P.H.S. Student Of The Month, for Tenth Grade for April, 2015.
Aside from being a great student, Jessica is also a terrific person. She personifies all the pillars for academic excellence, hard work, service, responsibility, and work habits. She does all this with the best attitude and a wonderful sense of humor.
Jessica is always there with a kind word, an encouraging and helpful word. She is always ready to “lend a hand” to a fellow student, teacher, or staff member. Honest, dependable, and trustworthy, Jessica is also a great role model.
Jessica Paumier deserves this honor for “Student of the Month”, and much, much more.”

9th Grade ~ Colin Meyer

Colin was nominated by the 9th Grade Team.
When asked why Colin was nominated, Ms. Argentina said:
“Throughout the year, Colin has been a model for his peers.  He is always prepared and focused, not only on his own success, but that of his fellow classmates.  He is always willing to lend a hand to a fellow student in understanding new concepts.  He is an active participant in class and on-line discussions, always offering a unique insight.  He is respectful of his teachers, peers, and the opportunities offered in each of his classes. With a quiet demeanor and determination, he excels in all of his classes.  Colin's selection as the 9th grade student of the month for April was a unanimous decision among all of his 9th grade teachers.”

March 2015 Students of the Month

12th Grade ~ Bailey Ackerland

Bailey was nominated by Mrs. McNellis.
When asked why Bailey was nominated, Mrs. McNellis said:
“I have known Bailey since the beginning of her freshman year, four years ago, and I have the privilege of having her in class again this school year. As a freshman, Bailey quickly earned my respect and admiration as she tackled and successfully conquered honors-level United States History, which is normally offered at the junior level. Currently, Bailey is a motivated student in AP Psychology. She is a hard-worker who willingly goes above and beyond what is asked of her as she strives for excellence. Do not let her quiet demeanor fool you. Bailey always takes a leadership role during group discussions and activities. She is neither afraid to speak her mind nor to defend her position on an issue, which she does in a polite and approachable manner. Bailey is always respectful to others, even those who may have differing opinions. She is a peer mentor for the Psychology II students, as well. The future is challenging for all of us, and Bailey's is quickly approaching. I believe her to be a strong, capable, determined young lady who is ready and eager to meet life's hurdles head on. My confidence in Bailey has never swayed, and it never will.”

11th Grade ~ Anastasia Antipov

Anastasia was nominated by Mr. Disz.
When asked why Anastasia was nominated, Mr. Disz said:
“I am proud to select Anastasia Antipov as the March student of the month. Anastasia is an impressive student who seeks out extra help because she cares about the quality of her work and the depth of her knowledge as opposed to merely her grade. She is someone who never takes shortcuts or looks for the easy way out. Her efforts are noticed by her peers which makes her a role model and a shining example of the best that SPHS has to offer.”

10th Grade ~ Cid Durden

Cid was nominated by Mr. Wormington.
When asked why Cid was nominated, Mr. Wormington said:
“I am pleased to recommend Cid Durden as Student of the Month. Cid is a model student at Suncoast Polytechnical High School.
I have known Cid this past year while he has taken Suncoast Polytechical High School's signature program: 'Animation, Game and Simulation Design' and 'Art 2D 2.' Cid approaches all challenges and endeavors with a positive attitude and a smile. He is an outstanding student in all respects. Cid has proven that through hard work, follow though, and teamwork, he can accomplish great things.
I look forward to following Cid's future progress as he finishes his course work at Suncoast Polytechical High School and later in college. Cid will leave a legacy with all those with whom he interacts. As such, I enthusiastically nominate Cid Durden as the Sophomore Student of the Month.”

9th Grade ~ Grace Hutchinson

Grace was nominated by the 9th Grade Team.
When asked why Grace was nominated, Ms. Argentina said:
“Grace Hutchinson was a unanimous choice for student of the month. All of her teachers had good things to say about her. Grace's favorite subjects are Math and English. She is also a remarkable athlete. She played soccer in middle school and may try out for the Sarasota High School team next year. She is always an enthusiastic participant in HOPE class, as well as her other classes. She's a team player, a positive and upbeat student who is always striving to do better. She has also been a wonderful, dedicated addition to the yearbook staff; diligently working on her assignments and Mrs. Fulgieri's “go-to” person! Grace's father teaches at Macintosh Middle and her mom provides child care. She has an older brother who lives in Massachusetts with his wife and two children. Grace is a valuable member of the SPHS community and we are lucky to have her here.”

Greetings Previous and Future Blood Donors!

Our fourth and last  Blood drive of the year is set for next Tuesday, March 31st from 8:00a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  The Donor Buses will be located behind building 3 - right next to those beautiful brand new Green Houses and overlooking the pond.

The last blood drive held on campus in January was a huge success.  Due to that success the Sarasota Community Blood Bank has decided to send us two buses.  So, we really do not want to disappoint them!  Blood is greatly needed right now, and there is always a shortage of donors.  Please consider donating, ask your friends and family to stop by as well.  Each donor gets a free T-Shirt and the peace of mind that you made a difference.  It is safe and easy to donate and only takes 30-45 minutes.

There will be a sign up table in the cafeteria on Monday during lunch, and there is also a sign up in the Media Center.  Of course, walk ins are welcome - and you do not need to sign up ahead of time to donate.

Find a buddy, and donate together!  Encourage your students to donate and they will often become lifelong donors!
They must be 17 years old and pick up a parent permission slip on Monday.

We need your help - all blood donated stays in Sarasota - for our community!  Thank you for your support!

February 2015 Students of the Month

12th Grade ~ Clarissa Choi

Clarissa was nominated by Dr. Burns.
When asked why Clarissa was nominated, Dr. Burns said:
“Clarissa has that kind of mind that always seeks answers.  Her discipline is legendary.  She attacks a problem with gusto and does not leave it until she is satisfied with her solution.  In addition she is generous and charming, always attentive and has a charming, if reclusive sense of humor.  But when she finds something amusing, her delight seemingly knows no bounds. In addition to superb scholarship she is a brilliantly talented artist whose paintings are delicate and generous.”

11th Grade ~ Valentina Dunder

Valentina was nominated by Mr. Finger.
When asked why Valentina was nominated, Mr. Finger said:
“Valentina Dunder is the junior class student of the month for February. Valentina is an excellent example of the SPHS cornerstones of being an active participant and acting responsibly. Valentina has established an impressive track record of completing assignments on time and using her class time to the fullest. She is always respectful in class with her attention and interaction with other students. She is the only student that has completed every honors physics assignment on time, even the few times she has been absent. She is a model student for success at SPHS and deserves to be recognized as student of the month.”

10th Grade ~ Anna Youmans

Anna was nominated by Ms. Lowery.
When asked why Anna was nominated, Ms. Lowery said:
“My nomination for 10th grade “Student of the Month” is Anna Youmans.  Anna is a true pleasure to have in class.  She respects all students and staff continually.  Many times, she has helped other struggling students succeed in many core areas.  Her natural ability is beyond question, and we are seeing it with our Academic Olympic matches.  She has taken an active role on this team, and has become a “leader” to many. This year has presented some struggles to Anna.  She has handled them all with great class and grace.  Her professional and mature nature has led her to handle these tough situations in an admirable way.  She is a pleasure.”

9th Grade ~ Kyle Guay

Kyle was nominated by the 9th Grade Team.
When asked why Kyle was nominated, Ms. Argentina said:
“If we had to come up with a model for a poster that depicted an ideal student, Kyle Guay would be ideal! The 9th grade team is very proud to announce that Kyle is February's student of the month. In his own subtle way, Kyle demonstrates the four cornerstones of SPHS. Angel Fund

Dear SPHS Parents,

I'd like to tell you a little about SPHS Booster's Angel Fund. The Angel Fund was established the first year the school opened to offer modest assistance to cover expenses for students that needed a little help, academically, socially, or wherever needed. The fund can cover things like dance tickets, field trips, Prom tickets, PSAT test, AP study guides, SAT test fees, or any expense that is presented to us that may need funding. Students should not miss out on school events due to the cost.

The Graduating Seniors have many expenses in the spring including the $50 Senior fees for graduation and $46 for the cost of their cap & gown that are due now. Every student deserves to be on that stage in cap and gown. Unfortunately we have several Seniors who have come to the office because they can not pay for their fees.

If you would like to sponsor a student please give to the Angel Fund. You will be given volunteer hours for your donation. You can make a check out to SPHS Boosters - Angel Fund and on the memo line write cap & gown.

Thanks for your help and your continued support of the Angel Fund. We want our students to walk proudly across the stage at graduation.

Sincerely,
Marcia Cruce
SPHS Booster President

January 2015 Students of the Month

12th Grade ~ Alexander Solvyev

Alexander was nominated by Dr. Burns.
When asked why he nominated Alexander, Dr. Burns said:
“Alex is a brilliant but mostly quiet scholar. He sees something he wants to learn about and then goes ahead and learns it. He has a very inquiring mind. He'll never grab the headlines, but he is thoroughly dependable as a scholar.”

11th Grade ~ Megan McDaniels

Megan was nominated by Ms. Mills.
When asked why she nominated Megan, Ms. Mills said:
“Megan is the junior class Student of the Month because she exemplifies the four cornerstones of SPHS. In and out of my Advanced Placement Language & Composition class Megan is respectful of differing opinions, people's schedules & time, and of herself. As such, she holds herself to high expectations in her detail-oriented class work, at her part-time job at Papa John's, and in her personal life. Her timeliness, attention to detail, and work-ethic are internally motivated and are done for the learning experience, not just for the grade - a teacher's dream. Her generous nature is shown daily to peers, and adults alike, in her willingness to share sustenance, knowledge, a ride-home, and her kindness. Megan exemplifies an excellent and dedicated student but is also an active and thoughtful young lady who takes part in family and civic activities. SPHS is a better place because she is a part of us!”

10th Grade ~ Tanner Wade

Tanner was nominated by Mr. Kahler.
When asked why he nominated Tanner, Mr. Kahler said:
“My nomination for Student of the Month is Tanner Wade. Tanner is an outstanding student, with a wonderful personality. He loves to learn, and help others. He uses his personality to make learning enjoyable, and is able to get along with all students. He is a great person, for other students to “look up” to.”

9th Grade ~ Kaylee Gross

Kaylee was nominated by the 9th Grade Team.
When asked why Kaylee was nominated, Ms. Argentina said:
“Kaylee exemplifies what it means to be a Student of the Month here at Polytech. She is first and foremost respectful, of herself and of others in her work and her demeanor. She's extremely responsible, being a very conscientious student which is evidenced by her grades! She never comes in with a reason her work was late or why she couldn't quite get it done; it's just done! She's an active participant in the classroom, but always in a meaningful way and she's always willing to serve others around her by helping anyone who asks. She's a delight in a classroom and it is our great pleasure to recognize this young woman as the 9th grade's Student of the Month for January 2015!”
