The New SPHS Booster News

Welcome to the SPHS 2014-15 school year! And welcome to the NEW SPHS Booster News Blog. We hope to offer up-to-the-minute information and announcements here.  You're welcome to leave comments - let us know what you want to read here.  As the Booster Newsletter Editor, I welcome news and information from you as well.

Registration, Orientation, and our first week of school has come and gone.  I trust that all of our families survived and are ready to settle in to new routines for another school year.

For the first post of the year, I thought it might be helpful to recap some of the most important information we all received at registration and orientation.

DESIGNATED ATTENDANCE LINE

We have a designated attendance line which is available for you to leave a detailed message 24/7.  We retrieve messages every morning.  The number to call is 941-927-4019 ext. 20313.  Please include the name of the caller, name of the student, date of absence, reason for absence and please leave your telephone number if you wish to receive a return call.  Please provide your child with a note when he/she returns to school in order to excuse the absence.

BUS INFORMATION
Information on bus routes and stops can be found on the district’s website: http://www.sarasotacountyschools.net/departments/transportation. Any additional questions regarding transportation will be addressed by calling the Transportation Department directly at 941-486-2141 or by emailing Bob Kopp, Route Supervisor at bob.kopp@sarasotacountyschools.net.

TECHNOLOGY GUIDELINES
The SPHS Hardware and Software Guidelines are available in a link on our home page http://www.sarasotacountyschools.net/schools/suncoastpolytechnical/.

TEXCELLENCE
SPHS students will need to access assignments and textbooks online from home.  Students who need assistance securing a home computer may qualify for the Texcellence Computer Program.  Eligibility is determined by meeting the criteria for Free & Reduced meals through the Sarasota County School District.  Please review the information on our district’s website:  http://sarasotacountyschools.net/departments/texcellence for more information regarding obtaining a free computer.

CURRICULUM NIGHT (OPEN HOUSE)
On Thursday, November 6th, SPHS and SCTI will hold their annual Curriculum Night (Open House). The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a Booster meeting, along with demonstrations on using the LEARN Portal (assignments & grade book) & CrossPointe (attendance & quarterly grades).  These computer programs will provide electronic access to student assignments, progress reports, and grades 24/7.

Is there anything you or your student have questions about?  Leave a comment and I'll do my best to answer you.
